FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a local food system?

A local food system is a given geographic location where the production of food, handling and distribution of food, and consumption of food is facilitated by a coordinated network of stakeholders.

Who is your programming for?

This program is not just for farmers. Fearless Farmers is for people who care about the health of their community and are ready to engage collaboratively.

Participants often include:

Farmers and food producers

Educators and informal learning leaders

Community organizers and advocates

Parents, caregivers, and engaged citizens

Organizational and institutional partners connected to food systems

This list isn’t comprehensive. If you care about your community, your food system, and nutrition, you can participate.

How is Fearless Farmers different from a workshop or a conference?

Our program is much more than a traditional educational experience. It will include facilitated virtual collaboration, online learning to close subject-matter gaps, a 4-day place-driven experiential learning opportunity, and a 12-month community-led implementation with facilitation and accountability.

Where does your programming take place?

Our program comes to your community. We typically host at a local farm that is practicing regenerative agriculture. Other land-based sites may be appropriate. We offer programs for local, national, and international individuals and communities. Our focus is on place-based learning so you can bring new-found knowledge and tools and apply them where you are.

Following place-based learning we may offer selected virtual learning experiences that may be self-paced or instructor-led. These experiences are facilitated through Zoom and our online learning platform.

What is the time commitment for your programs?

Our Intensive place-based learning is a 4-day program that typically will require some additional time for arrivals and departures depending on the location and your proximity to the location. Participants will usually attend a small amount of preparatory discussions/learning that typically is approximately 2 hours.

Following the Intensive, ongoing participation is periodic and community-driven over a period of 12 months with support on at least a monthly basis from Fearless Farmers facilitators.

Can institutions (e.g. schools, hospitals, local government) participate?

Yes! We encourage broad involvement from all food systems stakeholders relevant to your community.

Do you work outside Texas?

Yes! Our program operates nation-wide in the United States and can be tailored for other geographies as well.

How can my community get involved?

Our first step is to gather your food system stakeholders to evaluate readiness. This is typically done by hosting a dinner at a local farm, or farm-to-table restaurant. Alternatives could include an alternate event venue with catering by a local chef. Connect with us to share your ideas!

Do you teach how to farm?

While our program introduces aspects of regenerative agriculture as they pertain to sustainable food systems we do not teach people how to farm. However, we are happy to connect you with resources to support incorporation of sustainable farming practices in your community.

I heard about your Educator Curriculum and training program is this still available?

Contact us to discuss needs in your community. Our previous education work is still available and can be incorporated into food system actions in your community when appropriate.
